Shoulder pain
Shoulder pain is found in almost all age groups and in both sexes. Sometimes the pain in the shoulder occurs acutely, for example during sport or after lifting heavy loads. Chronic pain and even a stiff shoulder can be the result of inflammation, wear and tear or even injury. Regardless of the cause, shoulder pain can have a significant impact on the daily life of those affected.
Causes shoulder pain
In about 85% of cases, the cause is not in the shoulder joint itself, but in the area near the joint. For example, weak muscles, arthrosis, malpositions and damage to muscles, tendons or joint capsule due to injury or disease can cause the unpleasant pain. In addition, diseases of internal organs (e.g. gallstones) or rheumatic diseases can also be associated with shoulder pain.
In many cases, surgery is unnecessary, because the majority of those affected can be cured by physiotherapy. This involves training the posterior muscle chain and stretching the shortened pectoral muscle. In this way, the head of the humerus returns to the correct position and over time the shoulder hurts less and less.
Symptoms
Shoulder pain can be accompanied by various symptoms such as restricted movement and feelings of instability in the shoulder. There is also a loss of strength in the arm and a feeling of cold, tingling and numbness in the shoulder.
In some cases, there is also swelling, bruising and deformation in the shoulder area. If overhead activities are necessary, they are hardly possible due to the radiating pain in the entire upper arm, forearm and in the cervical and thoracic spine region.
Diagnosis
In the case of shoulder pain, the doctor will take a medical history to find out when and how often the pain in the shoulder occurs and whether there are other complaints besides shoulder pain, such as loss of strength in the arm or numbness in the fingers. This is followed by a physical examination using movement tests and palpation. If necessary, imaging procedures (computer tomography and/or magnetic resonance imaging) are used to find out how the pain can be specifically treated.
Treatment shoulder pain
Shoulder pain can be significantly alleviated by therapeutic measures. Those affected receive anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving medication as well as physiotherapy.
Another therapeutic approach is the Spectra-H lux. The laser therapy device is based on four simultaneously working energy sources (soft laser, magnetic field, red and infrared light), whose combined effect sustainably alleviates pain and increases the chances of rapid rehabilitation.
This is because the Spectra-H lux acts on the treated area in different ways – including the release of endorphins and enzymes that have an anti-inflammatory effect. The fact that the treatment is non-invasive and without side effects makes the Spectra-H lux an indispensable aid in the fight against shoulder pain.
