Ankle sprain

Causes ankle sprain

Symptoms
Generally, the area around the sprained ankle is painful and swollen. Sometimes sufferers have involuntary twitching of the muscles around the ankle. The severity of the symptoms depends on how severe the sprain is. If nerves are also injured, people may have difficulty feeling the foot and ankle (also called proprioception).

The doctor inquires about the circumstances of the occurrence of the injury and performs a physical examination.
If the ankle is very painful in certain places or the ankle cannot bear weight because of the pain, X-rays are sometimes taken to check for fractures.
Treatment ankle sprain
Treatment may include a bandage, splint, specially made boot or plaster cast. Paracetamol for pain control and crutches are also usually prescribed.
