Migraine
A migraine is different from the usual tension headache that almost everyone has from time to time. During a migraine attack, the pain often starts suddenly on one side of the head. The pain is much more severe than an ordinary headache and is usually accompanied by other unpleasant symptoms such as nausea and vomiting.

Causes migraine

Diagnosis
It is helpful for diagnosis to keep a diary of the headaches over a period of four to six weeks. Affected persons should document the time, type, intensity, duration, accompanying symptoms and possible triggers of the headaches in detail. The diary helps the doctor to make a diagnosis. In addition to the interview, a physical and neurological examination is also necessary.
If necessary, further examinations (e.g. an EEG, CT or MRI) are required in individual cases to rule out other diseases. Laboratory tests or X-ray procedures to visualise blood vessels may also be used if necessary.
Treatment migraine
Many people with migraines lie down in a quiet and dark room and cover the painful side of the head with a cooling pad, such as a damp cloth or a cooling element.
If the migraine is very painful, most people take medicines like paracetamol, ibuprofen or triptans.
